Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Depending on the type of disability your child has, hyperbaric oxygen therapy may prove to be beneficial. These treatments are still considered experimental. However, some children have experienced major improvements.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a therapeutic treatment that dates back to the 1920's, at which time it was already being used to treat naval and commercial deep-sea divers suffering from the "bends".
When receiving HBOT treatments, a person lies or sits in a monoplace or multiplace hyperbaric chamber and breathes 100% oxygen (the air we normally breathe contains only 21% oxygen). The atmospheric pressure is increased to greater than found at sea level, hence the term "hyperbaric". In a multiplace chamber, the oxygen is administered through a clear treatment hood that is placed over the person's head.
The clinic also offers treatments for some pathologies for which HBOT treatments have yet to be scientifically proven successful. Here are some pathologies which are undergoing clinical trails or pilot projects throughout the world:
Massage Therapist Some massage therapists specialize in giving massages to babies or young children. You can even be taught to massage your child. Massages can increase circulation and improve sensibility.
You can contact the "Association des massothérapeutes du Québec" to find out where can take massage classes.

Massages are also excellent for parents. Remember that to better take care of your child, you must take care of yourself and allow yourself some time off.

Psychologist Being the parents of a disabled child can be a very difficult thing for a couple to go through. Every individual deals through this experience in their own way, which can put an added strain on your life as a couple and family.
Accepting the fact that your child is disabled may be a long and difficult process. If you, your spouse, or someone else in your family is having difficulty dealing with this new reality, psychologists are there to help. Your local CLSC or hospital may offer this service free of charge, but there are only about 100 psychologists working out of CLSCs in Québec and a few hundred affiliated to hospitals, therefore making it difficult to obtain the services of a psychologist quickly.
You can always seek the services of a private practise psychologist.
